A festival celebrated and known worldwide, nothing compares to Edinburgh on Hogmanay. Every single year the celebration of New Year in Edinburgh is one to remember with a street party that simply can’t be missed.
Celebrations begin on 30th December with a must-see Torchlight Procession. Thousands of torch carriers come together a walk along the Royal Mile on to the son et lumiere and end up on Calton Hill for a fireworks party.
When Hogmanay, December 31st, arrives then celebrations kick off on Princes Street at the heart of the city with the spectacular Edinburgh Castle as a back drop. As many as 80,000 people can be found celebrating their way into the New Year with the Concert in the Gardens. Live music, DJs, entertainment and more. When midnight hits the world famous Edinburgh Hogmanay Midnight Fireworks take place at the castle.
Celebrations continue the next day with the Loony Dook, a chance to take a splash in the River Forth and there is also the Dookers Parade through the high street which takes place before and usually features thousands of enthusiastic people ready to jump into the river, many wearing fancy dress!
