The Edinburgh Mela was founded in 1995 by members of the city's minority ethnic communities. The first festival was held in Meadowbank Stadium and quickly grew to attract 20,000 people each year. It was the first ever Mela in Scotland and has gained a strong reputation across the UK.
The Edinburgh Mela embraces the diverse communities and cultures across Edinburgh and Scotland and celebrates them in a festival of dance and vibrancy. The Festival now calls the Leith Links its home and it attracts artists of both national and international repute. The festival celebrates the arts, music and dance from around the world and has a core aim of making understanding between people of different backgrounds and cultures more aware of each other's communities and bring them together.
The 2015 Edinburgh Mela takes place on 29th and 30th August and tickets can be bought on the day, with under 12s able to enter for free.
