Find out about the Scottish Parliament, see the parliament in action or take a guided tour. The home of the Scottish Parliament sits squarely in the heart of the city’s Old Town World Heritage Site. Visitors can enjoy the centre for free and it is home to both a shop and a café, as well as offering arranged tours.
Visiting the Scottish Parliament gives you the chance to enjoy a wide range of different experiences. You can visit the debating chamber, take the opportunity to see the genuine Scottish Parliament in action and also book onto a guided tour of the building if you want to see it all. During recess there are still tour dates available but it is worth checking in advance. Each tour lasts approximately an hour and gives you the chance to hear all about the parliament’s architecture and design as well as history and its art collection.
The Scottish Parliament tends to be open to visitors from Monday to Saturday although there are exceptions both at Christmas and during the February recess. Getting in touch with the Parliament directly is the best way to see if the dates you require are available to avoid disappointment. Even if the building is closed it’s wonderful to look at from the outside and certainly worth strolling past at the very least.
