A truly inspirational literary festival takes place in the city every year and lasts for 17 days each August, inspiring new authors as well as showing off the talents of those already writing successfully.
The Edinburgh International Book Festival began in 1983 and has gone from strength to strength, standing out a key event in the Edinburgh August Festival season. From 1997 the festival has been celebrated every year and brings together exceptional literary talents and those who aspire to their success as well as those who truly appreciate it. The festival includes many meet the author events, workshops, readings and more. Over 700 events take place in every festival.
The Edinburgh International Book Festival also incorporates a Children's Programme which shows off the wonder of reading and literature for young visitors and includes workshops, storytelling sessions and more to inspire a new generation of literature lovers.
