Against the backdrop of Edinburgh Castle, the world's most spectacular Tattoo will host a celebration of talent from four continents including pipers, gymnasts, singers, dancers and an amazing motorcycle display team. The emphasis is again very much on music with the event expected to delight an international crowd with its rich variety.
A key part of the Edinburgh Festival the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo is a unique and stand-out event enjoyed annually. It’s a memorable celebration of Scottish music, dance and military pageantry. It is one experience you can’t enjoy anywhere but in Edinburgh.
The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo has the remarkable and awe-inspiring floodlit Edinburgh Castle as its backdrop and brings together nearly a thousand musicians, drummers, pipers, dancers and singers to perform together on the Esplanade.
The whole experience is a hugely emotive and stirring experience and the military bands and musicians play together and emerge from the castle gates playing a wide range of powerful and well known Scottish battle tuned, representing many of the country’s most famous regiments.
In addition to the traditional local bands the spectacular event also draws in displays from many overseas performers and despite the same basic premise each year has an original and different feel.
The spectacle is brought a poignant and powerful close with a long piper playing a haunting lament which is then followed by fireworks, Auld Lang Syne sung out from the audience, military jets and when this is all brought together you can be sure of a night’s entertainment that you’ll never forget. Many visitors make the pilgrimage to Edinburgh on an annual basis to see the Tattoo.
