Blog - Go Shopping, Edinburgh style

The beauty of Edinburgh is that is offers world-class shopping facilities in beautiful, atmospheric surroundings. The architecture of both the Old and New towns surrounds you as you enjoy the shopping streets and arcades of the city and her we're looking at the wide range of different shopping opportunities you can enjoy whilst visiting.

The city centre is the obvious place to begin a shopping trip. All the essential high street stores will be found on Princes Street and in the surrounding area but nearby you'll also find Edinburgh institution, Jenners, quirky and unique to Edinburgh it has been serving the city since the early 19th century.

For the high of modernity and designer style Multrees Walk is the place to go. Home to Scotland's only Harvey Nichols, there are outlets and boutiques of Louis Vuitton, Celine, Gucci, Marc Jacobs and more. George Street too is known for its high end boutiques mixed in amongst high street favourites and some of the world's most famous jewellery and accessories retailers.

For something truly Scottish and to experience a real tourist trap with the heart of Edinburgh at its centre, the Royal Mile is the place for you. Every type of souvenir you could imagine from miniature ornaments, to exceptional single malt whiskies and handmade Scottish fudge and shortbread can be found on a trip down the Mile.

If the alternative scene is more your think then Grassmarket is the place to head to with a wide range of truly unique and individual boutiques with really welcoming charm. With everything from vintage clothes boutiques to contemporary jewellery and rare books available, it is a real hub of activity and opportunities to find something unique.

Other popular areas throughout Edinburgh include Stockbridge, Morningside and the West End where you'll find bustling shops alongside delis and tearooms, ensuring an enjoyable shopping experience with plenty of opportunities for a pit stop or two.

If you're looking further afield in the Lothians you could opt to enjoy one of the out of city shopping centres including the Livingston Designer Outlet, where bargains are available in every store or the truly inspirational Fairtrade Town or Linlithgow where independent shops are found on almost every street corner.

Edinburgh's leading attractions are alongside many of the shopping streets and the compact size of the city means you can squeeze a lot into each day of your stay and shop ‘til you drop!
