Blog - Edinburgh's Michelin Stars

Dining out in Edinburgh can be a truly luxurious affair with no less than 5 Michelin starred restaurants to choose from. There are plenty of exceptional dining spots throughout the city but here we're focusing on those five exclusive locations that have done enough to earn themselves a coveted Michelin Star.

The Kitchin

Taking its name from the mastermind and famous chef behind it, The Kitchin is the success story of Tom Kitchin. Opened in 2006, The Kitchin gained its Michelin Star in 2007 and the food is exceptionally simple and beautifully presented, offering a truly exquisite and memorable dining experience. The staff are highly experienced and well versed in their menu as well as the expansive wine list and prices are fair, from £30 per head for dinner. The Kitchin is on Commercial Street in Leith.

Restaurant Martin Wishart

With a solid reputation amongst locals and visitors, Restaurant Martin Wishart maintains its reputation as one of the city's finest dining establishments. With an exclusive tasting menu showing off the finest delights of the menu, Restaurant Martin Wishart is the kind of establishment you want to book again before you've even finished eating.


In the beautiful surrounds of a traditional Edinburgh Georgian townhouse, designed by renowned architect Thomas Playfair, 21212 is a modern establishment that focuses the guests on where the action happens - the kitchen. Glass-entry to the kitchen allows diners to see the chefs at work and marvel at the beauty of the food they're being presented with. There is something magical about the ever-changing 21212 menu and the chef's creativity emanates from each dish.

Castle Terrace

In the shadows of the foreboding Edinburgh Castle in the heart of the city, just a short walk from Princess Street you find the atmospheric and welcoming Castle Terrace Restaurant. With a farm-to-plate philosophy the foods you eat are sourced locally and you will have the opportunity to enjoy the best of Scottish and British food, amongst vibrant and creative creations and dishes with a modern twist. The tasting menu can be pairs seamlessly with the extensive wine menu and the atmosphere is relaxed and unpretentious.
