A ‘spirited’ tour of Edinburgh’s finest Scotch!
Any visit to Edinburgh just wouldn’t be complete without a visit to one of Scotland’s most famous whiskey distillery museums and the opportunity to taste Scotland’s national drink. Located along the famous Royal Mile in the heart of the city centre, The Scotch Whiskey Experience is a truly fascinating look at the history and present day production of Scotland’s amber nectar.
The grand tour
This tour is unlike many other museums and exhibition visits – as soon as you step foot inside, you will be whisked away on a bubbling, swirling tour of a replica distillery in your very own barrel-shaped transportation! Designed to really make you feel part of the process, the tour itself takes you through the history of whiskey production, explaining how the basic ingredients are carefully crafted and distilled into the delicious tipple we all know and love.
Cleverly designed to appeal to all ages, the Scotch Whiskey Experience has plenty of interactive elements to keep everyone amused, whilst those old enough to participate are treated to a tasting session where Scotch whiskey experts help you find the flavours that appeal to your taste buds, ensuring you find the perfect malt whiskey for your taste. Younger members are treated to a drop of Scotland’s finest Irn Bru soft drink to keep their energy levels up too!
Take home a tipple or two!
After the tour and a chance to see the largest selection of Scotch whiskeys in the world, there is plenty of time to browse the well-stocked shop to find the perfect gift to take home to family and friends....or perhaps the odd treat for yourself instead! A real Aladdin’s Cave for whiskey lovers, the shop is packed with over 300 different types of Scotch whiskey and visitors who take the tour are treated to a special discount on 70cl bottles and tasting packs.
Round off the day
Those who fancy making a day of it can take a table at the museum’s smart Amber Restaurant which serves a stunning array of Scottish dishes made from the finest local ingredients. A meal at the Amber Restaurant will allow you to discover the regional flavours of traditional Scottish recipes in truly beautiful surrounds...and it does contain a whiskey bar too, so you can try out your new found taste for Scotch!
