Water of Leith
The Water of Leith is the most significant area of green space within Edinburgh's city centre and suburbs.
Thirty five kilometres from its source in the Pentland Hills, the river travels through the villages of Balerno, Currie, Juniper Green and Colinton into the heart of Edinburgh, passed Murrayfield and Roseburn onto Dean Village, Stockbridge and Warriston and onto its mouth with the Firth of Forth in Leith. A small but dramatic river with a fascinating history and exciting wildlife.
Its course can be followed over 12 miles of its length using the Water of Leith Walkway which has been upgraded and new sections added. You can now join the Water of Leith by Balerno High School and follow the river as it winds its way to Leith.
