Edinburgh International Book Festival
11 - 27 August 2007
The world's largest celebration of the written word; a vibrant meeting place where people of all ages can enjoy events by some of the greatest writers and thinkers on the planet.
The 2007 programme will be announced on 14 June
Several of the authors who gave inspirational talks at our 2006 Book Festival have since gone on to receive nominations and win awards for their latest written works. Out of a 19 strong long-list of authors up for the 2006 Man Booker Prize, 11 appeared at the festival. Seamus Heaney won the TS Eliot Prize for his newest volume of poetry, District and Circle, while William Boyd picked up the Costa Novel Award for Restless.
We were lucky enough to host events by both 2006 Saltire Book Award winners: Maggie Fergusson, winner of First Book of the Year for her insightful biography, George Mackay Brown: The Life, and John Burnside who won Book of the Year for A Lie About My Father.
The Scottish Arts Council Book of the Year Award ceremony was held at the Book Festival for the first time last year. All three distinguished nominees – James Meek, Ali Smith and Kathleen Jamie – entertained audiences with stimulating events.
